Basser Undergraduate Researcher, Summer 2020

Tanya Watarastaporn

I am working on Hadly Lab initiatives applying genomic resources for conservation. Species in consideration are  jaguars and tigers, both highly endangered and often trafficked. I am compiling literature that assesses the current status and availability of DNA samples from various facilities. The information will help identify populations to sequence and aid in developing a lab SNP panel.  As anthropogenic influences continue to cause species including tigers and jaguars to dwindle, my work in conservation genomics will be key in informing future efforts to protect the diversity and maintain populations of these endangered species.
